Keyword Copywriting 2

To Blog or Not

Questions and Answers

Q: What is an H1 tag?

A: It is a bit of coding in HTML indicating that this is the main heading.  If you are not coding yourself then ask your developer to do it.  Most content management systems allow you to specify it as well.

Q: Can you have a web site with a blog?

A: Yes

Q: Does Google rate a blog for SEO?

A: Yes, it all helps.

Q. Is the Google blog a spoof?  Can we believe what they are writing.

A: I don’t think so.  I think it is genuine.

Q: What is a pingback?

A: It is a protocol between blogs that recognises that one blog has cited another.

Q: If you allow comments in your blog are they reviewed before being published?

A: Yes, you can moderate them.

Q: The title is “To blog or not”.  Is there a downside to blogging?

A: Once you have started you cannot stop.  Do you want people to have the visibility into your life?  For example, a potential employer might Google your name and find “I like clubbing”.

Q: How do people find out about blogs in the first place?

A: It is by links from other blogs.  It is a great big social network.

Q: With a blog search engine is it searching submitted blogs or does Google identify the blog as such?

A: It is the latter for the Google Blog Search.  Technorati may monitor pingbacks.

Q: I have static pages behind my homepage which is the blog.  Is this good for Search Engine Optimisation?

A: Fresh content on the site will keep you high in the ratings.  Wikipedia is a good example.  If you search for “lemons” for example you will find it on the first page just because it is a site that is always being updated.  Regular news Updates are great.

Q: How regularly should you update and how much?

A: That is impossible to quantify.  It is difficult to imagine too much change.  A one word change will do.

Q: Active New Plus allows comments on news.  Should it be casual style or key-word orientated?

A: It is your decision, but you will have to maintain the style.

Q: In the old days it was them and us.  Now I see it as a community of like-minded people.  Do you agree?

A: Yes, it reflects that we are social animals.  Now we can relate to people over a distance.  However do not believe every blog as some people are paid to write them!
